Acceptable Use Policy
Effective June 25, 2026.
1. The short version
ClipCapsule is built for keeping personal memories. To keep it safe for everyone, you cannot use ClipCapsule to upload, store, or share content that hurts other people or breaks the law.
This policy supplements our Terms of Service. Violating it is grounds for content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination.
2. Zero tolerance: child sexual abuse material
ClipCapsule has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind.
Any account found uploading, storing, or sharing CSAM will be terminated immediately. We will preserve and report the content and account information to the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, and we will cooperate with law enforcement.
We use a combination of user reporting, automated signals on shared (cloud-synced) content, and on-receipt manual review of reports. Content that is only on a user's device and never synced or shared is not scanned by us.
3. Other prohibited content and conduct
You may not use ClipCapsule to upload, store, share, or do any of the following:
- Non-consensual intimate imagery — sexual or nude content depicting an identifiable person who has not consented to it being captured or shared.
- Sexual content involving real people without consent, including deepfakes intended to depict a real person in a sexual context.
- Harassment, threats, or stalking — content intended to threaten, intimidate, dox, or facilitate stalking of any identifiable person.
- Hate speech and incitement — content that attacks people or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or veteran status, or that incites violence against any of those groups.
- Glorification of violence or terrorism — content that celebrates terrorist acts or organizations, or graphic real-world violence shared for shock value.
- Self-harm or suicide promotion — content that encourages, instructs, or glorifies self-harm or suicide.
- Copyright or other IP infringement — see our DMCA Policy for the takedown process.
- Malware, viruses, or exploits — uploading any file intended to harm a device or system.
- Impersonation — pretending to be another person or organization in a way that misleads.
- Spam, scams, and phishing — using the service to send unsolicited bulk content or defraud anyone.
- Unauthorized access or interference— probing, scanning, or attacking ClipCapsule's infrastructure, or trying to access another account's data.
- Reselling the service — repackaging ClipCapsule access for resale without our written permission.
- Violating applicable law — anything illegal where you are or where the recipient is.
4. How to report a violation
If you see content or behavior that violates this policy:
- In the iOS app— use the “Report” option in the context menu on any shared clip, capsule, or family-library item.
- By email — write to trust@clipcapsule.app with a description, the offending content's identifier or a screenshot, and your contact info.
- To block an abusive user— use the “Block account” option in the app. Blocked users cannot send you family invites or interact with your content.
For suspected CSAM specifically, you may also report directly to NCMEC's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org. Outside the U.S., contact your country's INHOPE hotline.
5. Our response
We aim to respond to abuse reports within 24 hours and to act on confirmed violations promptly. Suspected CSAM is treated as the highest priority and escalated immediately.
When we receive a report we may:
- Remove or restrict access to the offending content
- Limit the reported account's ability to share or invite
- Suspend the account pending investigation
- Terminate the account permanently
- Preserve relevant content and metadata for law-enforcement requests
- Report to NCMEC, INHOPE, or other authorities where required
6. Enforcement ladder
For most violations, our default ladder is:
- Warning — content removed; account notified; given a chance to read this policy and adjust.
- Strike — repeated or more serious violations trigger temporary suspension (typically 7 to 30 days) and removal of additional content.
- Permanent ban — account terminated, all content removed in line with the Privacy Policy retention window, and the user is barred from creating new accounts.
Some violations skip steps. CSAM, credible threats of violence, and large-scale abuse are grounds for immediate termination without warning.
We do not always notify the reporter of the outcome of their report; we will if your safety is directly involved.
7. Appeals
If your account or content was actioned and you believe we made a mistake, reply to the enforcement email or write to appeals@clipcapsule.app within 30 days. Include any context that would help us reassess. A different reviewer will handle the appeal where possible.
8. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as the product and the threats it faces evolve. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email. Continued use of ClipCapsule after a change means you accept the updated policy.
